Lucas Myers calls his hilarious solo show, The Cromoli Brothers, a "post vaudeville" adult comedy and it promises to be even more wicked than last year's hit performance of "DECK".
Lucas Myers has been creating great theatre around the province since his graduation from the National Theatre School in 1998. Working with Theatre SKAM in Victoria, he performed and composed music for many original plays. In 2001 his interests turned to collaborative creation and he studied with the SITI Company of New York, returning to the West Coast to apply their techniques with like-minded artists.
Based in Nelson, BC, he dedicates his energy to creating a new work every year to be performed locally and toured to BC communities. After Myers' hilarious solo comedy DECK last March at the hall, we invited him back for an encore. This year's presentation, The Cromoli Brothers is a high-octane mash-up of adult comedy, stand-up, vaudeville, and musical theatre. The brothers (only one of whom actually shows up) perform vignettes ranging from the poignant, to the political, to the absurd. Myers describes The Cromoli Brothers as "post-modern vaudeville" and it's a perfect follow up to the Errington Hall's A Night at the Palace production the previous month.
Vaudeville was the original sitcom and stand-up comedy in the 1920s, before movies and TV. It was uncomplicated and extremely popular - it merely had to be entertaining to gain an audience. Myers has taken that idea and put it through his own whacky filter, coming up with 15 skits whose titles are written on a poster board on stage. The audience then gets to choose the order of skits like Nude Beach, Cover Song, Sex, Shot in the Dark, Dear Mary I'm in a Gang Now, Pilot Talk, The Rich, and more. The show also features original songs performed on ukulele, melodica, and glockenspiel plus a very unique David Bowie cover. At the end of the evening, we're sure you'll agree with The Globe and Mail's emphatic thumbs up: "Myers is Brilliant!"
The evening of theatrical mayhem opens with Oceanside's award-winning duo, The Magic of Zanthera. Sisters Heather and Sandra McNeill are active members of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Canadian Association of Magicians, serving as secretary and vice president of the Victoria Magic Circle. Their show has been presented across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland and as far afield as Washington State and California.
Saturday, March 10. 8pm, doors 7:30. Tickets for this adult only show are $20 and available at Cranky Dog, Heaven on Earth, and the Errington Store or online at ErringtonHall.Tickit.ca ($2.50 cover charge),
